The Creative Unit

Circle Rotation
Image Overlay with Text
Hand Painted
Vertical Stripes
Half Tone Screen
Double Exposure
Texture Screen

I like the concept of the creative unit because I love abstract art. I like the idea of editing a photo in photoshop to make it into a whole new photo. My favorite pieces that I did were the last two that I edited actually, the Texture screen and the double Exposure because I LOVE the way they look. I found it really cool that photoshop has so many things to offer in editing a picture, so many things I didnt know about until this unit.

Final Motion Project

Blurred Motion
I was standing along the streets of NYC waiting for a more orangey cab to pass so it could compliment and create unity with the oranges on the fruit stand. I had a slower shutter speed to create the blur.
f/stop: 18.0
SS: 1/25
ISO: 400
Frozen Motion
I had a somewhat fast shutter speed to freeze the woman's fast walk across the street as well as putting NY elements like the one way street sign, the cross walk, and the pizza place into the background of the shot.
f/stop: 9.0
SS: 1/1000
ISO: 3200
Writing with Light
I went to my friend's house (who also has a strong interest in photography) and he was spinning the Steel Wool around while I had the BULB button down for a few second to create the many many streaks of light.
I don't have the metadata for this shot because my friend had it on his camera and sent the shot to me.
 Zooming
I focused in on the flower off of the tree then zoomed in from 18-40mm pretty fast while having a somewhat slow shutter speed.
f/stop: 18.0
SS: 1/10
ISO: 100
Panning
Again, I was watching the cars in NY and saw this brand new shiny car pass and traced in with my camera so I could freeze the motion of the car but still blur the background.
f/stop: 18.0
SS: 1/25
ISO: 400
Chrono
I went to a baseball game and had a very very fast shutter speed to capture everything that was happening all at once then combined the shots and raised the saturation to make my chrono shot! :)
f/stop: 6.3
SS: 1/2500
ISO: 800

Motion Planning

~Planning~

Blurred Subject
* Taxi driving through NYC
* Someone biking through Central Park
* An interesting subject running through Time Square

Panning
* Follow someone's motion of running down the sidewalk in front of Stardust Diner

Freezing
* Kayleigh jumping off of a swing
* Broken glass as it's breaking

Zooming
* try and zoom in on a meaningful or cool text in a book or magazine
* zoom in on someone running towards the camera
* Kay running across the creek at the camera so you can see her while seeing the water splashing in the background

Writing with Light
* Using Sparklers to outline Kayleigh
* Use these little laser light things to flash lights to spell out a word in Central Park
* try different things out with laser lights or glow sticks

Lighting Final

 Existing
 Natural Light

Why is this person important in your life?

Parker Hillard is important to me because he's one of my closest friends. He's always there to make me laugh and he just treats me like one of the guys. Park is always there to hang out when I'm sad or mad at the world and he's just there to make me laugh.

How does their personality dictate your artistic decisions?

This kid is a pain in the butt to photograph to be honest. He never stays still and he hates posing for the camera. So when and doubt, take candid shots. The candidness of these shots really exposes the person that Parker is, which is a jeep loving, food hogging, creative, goofy person. I had him outside with his Jeep because he is IN LOVE with that thing, and I took a photo of him in the garage making something so I could get him in action while he was doing something that he loved.

How has this unit affected your photography?

This unit has affected my photography a lot because I discovered that I had to follow him around for a while (not to sound creepy at all) to get a good photo because he always moves around. I also had to change my patience level during this unit because I'm used to photographing people in the studio in 20 minutes and being done with it. I had to hang around Park for 2 days to get shots that were up to my standards but also expressed his personality.

Lighting Shots

Natural Lighting

 Direct Light

Existing Lighting

Artificial Lighting- Multiple Light Source

 hard light
 reflector
soft lighting

Artificial Lighting- Single Light Source

 Butterfly
 Hard Lighting
 Loop
 Rembrandt
 Silhouette
 Soft Lighting
Split

I've learned that lighting in a photograph can effect and change almost everything. Lighting can change the mood and the quality of the photo as well as the story in the photograph. Without light, we wouldn't have photographs to look at or take.

Final Project Composition

The City Photo is important to me because it's a picture of Philadelphia and I was born there so it means a lot to me sentimentally. I thought Vertical Lines ran throughout this photo and the lines on the building led the eye up so that is the compositional element in this photo.

In the next photo to the right (the firework), I used Movement and rhythm as my compositional element. This photo is important to me because I took it on New Years Eve and it was the first NYE I've spent with my dad and my step mom together.

The next photo to the right has diagonal lines as the compositional element. This photo is important to me because it's my name tag from Journey's which is where
I work and spend half of my time usually.

Next photo is the sunset on the farm which had the compositional element of horizon lines. This photo is important to me because I go by this farm every day of the week and every morning I see the sunrise behind it.

The Coca Cola clock was originally symmetrical compositionally but then I cropped the photo in closer to make it more interesting to me. This photo is important to me because it's the clock in our family friend's restaurant that he just opened.

The center photo's compositional element is curved lines. This photo is important to me because it's the gear outside of Planet Fitness and I go to Planet Fitness almost everyday, and I love to run and workout there.

In the top left photo of the book, I planned on taking a close and detailed shot of the book pages. I intensified the blacks to enhance the contrast and interest of the photo. The photo uses leading line composition to draw my eye from the edge of the pages up to the corner of the photo, off the page. This picture is important to me because I love to read books. I usually don't find time to but when I find an interesting book like this one, I have trouble putting it down.

The photo of my dog uses a compositional element of texture to really show the detail and draw the eye in on the fur of my dog. I love this photo probably more than any other because my dog is my best friend and I treat him like a real person. I honestly don't know what life would be like when he's gone and I can't take pictures of him anymore.

The bottom left photo is of all of my favorite things, clothes and shoes. This photo uses the compositional element of variety so your eye moves around to each piece and subject in the photo. This photo is important to me because I am addicted to shopping it's basically all I do.

The final photo is of, yes, the beloved Starbucks. I like this composition because it's asymmetrical and it just draws my eye from each starbucks drink back and forth to each new detail. This photo is important to me because I go to Starbucks more than I probably should and I enjoy the atmosphere in there (and the drinks).
