Understanding Shutter Speeds

ISO- 800
f/stop- 13.0
Shutter Speed- 1/10

ISO-1600
f/stop- 4.5
Shutter speed- 1/200

Shutter Speed is the amount of time the shutter is open.
Visually the slower the shutter speed, the more blur the object in the photo has when it is in motion.
Technically, the shutter is open for longer which causes the object to be blurred unless it is COMPLETELY still.
The relationship shutter speed has in the exposure triangle is that when you change the shutter speed, you have to either raise or change the f/stop and the ISO along with it.

Understanding Aperture

Small Depth of Field
ISO- 800
F/stop- 4.0
Shutter Speed- 1/30

Large Depth of Field
ISO- 800
F/Stop- 36.0
Shutter Speed- 0.3"

Aperture is the size of the opening in the lens that permits light to hit the film/digital sensor.
Techinically, aperture opens and closes the lens to filter in more or less light. Visually, it blurs the background with a lower aperture number, and it focuses on all grounds the higher the f/stop number. The Exposure Triangle correlates to all the camera's aperture, shutter speed, and ISO because when you change one, it directly effects the other.

Final theme collage

i. I thought this shooting assignment was overall pretty neat. I liked the personal touch of being able to take photos that I thought represented a certain theme.

ii. I'm pretty pleased with the end result of this project, I just wish I would have spent a tiny bit more time editing to make the effect of each photo better and cooler.

iii. One of my favorite pictures in the collage is in the 3rd row, 2nd column. It's a picture of my dog that I took while he was playing with his bone and I just love the way his eyes sparkle and shine in the photo. I also love that I put a red filter over it to really being a pop of color to the middle of the collage.

iv. This collage really represents my personality because from it you can certainly tell that I am a huge dog person and a big animal person in general. I said that the little bugs on the leaf were ugly so you can tell I hate bugs. You can also tell I love color. I love bright and bold colors so I had to saturate and really filter bright colors onto my photos to make them all combine together into a bright, colorful piece.

Peer Interview (Emma Anselmo)

EMma Anselmo

This is Emma Anselmo but her friends tend to call her just Em. She took art last year and liked seeing the artistic side of her for a change. Another aspect of photography that intrigued her was the memories created and seen within a photograph. Her dream photo spot would be none other than the Eiffel Tower in the City of Love, Paris. But before she goes there, she would like to learn how to make her photos look like a professional picture. She’s outgoing and determined which are her best qualities. But if she could change ONE thing about herself she would prefer to be a little shorter. In 10 years at the age of 25, she sees herself having a career in either the FBI or as a lawyer. Right now, she’s a cheerleader who basically can’t live without her phone. Even though she can’t be torn from her phone, she still loves spending time with her fam and friends. She’s a cheerleader so obviously you’d be able to find her in the CV auxiliary gym practicing with her team. Em and I share the same fear… SPIDERS. She’s allergic to them so she has a valid reason to be afraid of them but still. She thinks she’s a perfectionist and sometimes a little bit of a control freak, but that’s a good thing right? At least she gets stuff done, and just think, when it gets done it’s perfect! Being a little bit of a neat freak, she doesn’t like sharing drinks and stuff with people. If someone gave her the super power of levitation she’d probably LOVE that more than anything so she wouldn’t have to come in contact with as many germs. You could probably find her levitating her Tomato soup in a bread bowl at Panera considering she’d want to eat there for the rest of her life. I mean I would too, who wouldn’t want Panera everyday.

Themed Shooting Assignment

Theme
Subject
Reason
1.     Anger

My dog gets really angry when I try to touch his feet and he's asleep, so he bares his teeth like this which I thought represented anger pretty well.
2.     Power

This picture of my dog, once again, represents power because of the gazing look on his face and the size of him compared to the chair just made me think of power.
3.     Ugly

I cannot stand bugs of any kind so these little bugs I saw on a plant were probably the ugliest things I've ever seen besides a spider.
4.     Calm

My dog, Rocky, looks very calm in this photo because he's gazing down and he has his head down which means he's relaxed and calmed down.
5.     Compassion

This made me think of compassion because rocky has his paw reaching out towards me and his eyes look gentle and soft in this photo which just makes me think of the word compassion.
6.     Authority

I chose this picture for the word authority because this cat thinks he rules the world and he never lets anyone boss him around.
7.     Pride

This dog was so proud that he "ripped the toy away from me" and it was just too cute that he was so proud of himself.
8.     Mysterious

My step sister's cat Pepper, makes me think of the word mysterious in this photo because his eyes are staring off into the distance and he doesn't move a muscle.
9.     Wisdom

This dog was a very old dog, maybe 15 years old and she followed me everywhere. She had a certain look in her eye that just made her look like an elder, wiser dog that knew more about the world than a younger puppy would.
10.  Love

Again, a photo of Rocky. Rocky is the definition of love because I've had him since I could remember and he's like a brother to me and I love him more than anything.
11.  Lazy

This photo of Pepper the cat describes the word lazy because he was just laying there like a bum for hours and hours in the sun and not having a care in the world.
12.  Temptation

This photo describes temptation in my opinion because when Rocky is upset with me he is so tempted to bite  hand off but he knows he can't so he holds himself back.
13.  Happiness

This photo represents happiness to me because every single time I see it I can't help but laugh or smile at how silly it is.
14.  Growth

I chose this picture for growth because I've had Rocky for all of my life and I've seen him grow and age over the years.
15.  Memories

This bridge photo reminds me of a lot of memories because it's the bridge crossing into New Jersey and I cross it so often that I forget sometimes that every time I cross it, new memories are made on that trip.
16.  Sounds
This photo represents sound because this bird, Joey literally never shuts up. Never.
17.  Diversity

This photo represents diversity to me because these two, Pepper and Cookie are COMPLETE opposites. Dog vs. cat, mean vs. sweet, etc etc.
18.  Dangerous

This makes me think of danger because my bird Willie has bitten too many people and every time I'm even remotely close to him I'm afraid he'll bite me.
19.  Hope

This photo represents hope because this dog was just hoping and praying someone at the cafe would drop a piece of food to eat.
20.  Truth

Rocky's eyes just represent the truth toe because dogs can't lie and they can't leave. They're always loyal and stand by your side and I think that is why my dog is the most truthful and honest thing I know.
21.  Patriotic

This makes me think of patriotic because of the colors involved in this shot. Cookie has red bows and she's sitting in front of a red white and blue banner, I mean if that doesn't spell patriotic then I don't know what does.
22.  Sad

This photograph makes me sad because I know I'll be leaving Pennsylvania soon and I won't be walking down it every day from the bus anymore.
23.  Terrifying

As I said before, Willie scares me because he could easily rip some skin off with that beak and that's why he represents the word terrifying as well.
24.  Abandoned

When I went down to the beach a few weekends ago, it began to rain and no one was to be found in Ocean City so it was pretty much abandoned.
25.  Courage

This photo represented the word courage to me because this little dog just sat and sat, staring at a bug and had the courage to jump up at it and kill it.
