Understanding Aperture

Small Depth of Field
ISO- 800
F/stop- 4.0
Shutter Speed- 1/30

Large Depth of Field
ISO- 800
F/Stop- 36.0
Shutter Speed- 0.3"

Aperture is the size of the opening in the lens that permits light to hit the film/digital sensor.
Techinically, aperture opens and closes the lens to filter in more or less light. Visually, it blurs the background with a lower aperture number, and it focuses on all grounds the higher the f/stop number. The Exposure Triangle correlates to all the camera's aperture, shutter speed, and ISO because when you change one, it directly effects the other.
